Tobin Miller’s Road to Red Bull Romaniacs Gold
In 2023, Tobin Miller was still trying to determine what it would take to become one of America’s top hard enduro racers.
The Iowa native grew up racing harescrambles, working his way through the Iowa Enduro Riders Association from the youth classes to AA before eventually shifting his attention toward hard enduro. When Miller sat down with On the Pegs in 2023, he had recently joined Champion Brick Racing and was beginning to approach his racing career with a much more deliberate plan.
At 21 years old, Miller said he would give himself until age 25 to put everything he had into racing and find out whether he could turn hard enduro into a career. At the time, he was still working to establish himself in the Pro class and openly identified several weaknesses he believed were holding him back.
Three years later, Miller’s career looks very different.
Now 24, he has worked his way into the top 10 of the U.S. Hard Enduro Premier Championship and, in 2026, completed the Gold class at Red Bull Romaniacs. Miller became one of only 10 American racers to accomplish the feat.

Closing the Gap in U.S. Hard Enduro
One of the biggest changes has been how Miller evaluates his performance.
Rather than looking at riders such as Cody Webb or Ryder LeBlond as unreachable names at the front of the field, Miller now studies the time separating him from those ahead. A 10-minute deficit over a multi-hour hard enduro becomes a collection of smaller opportunities to improve.
“The faster you get and the closer you get to the lead pack, the smaller the differences are,” Miller said. “You really have to be so perfect everywhere.”
That analytical approach has also shaped his training. Miller has focused on identifying specific weaknesses and repeating individual techniques until they become instinctive instead of relying solely on race experience to make him better.
Learning to Race Smarter
Miller’s approach to race strategy has evolved too.
In his 2023 interview, he admitted that he often attacked difficult lines too early in a race, sometimes allowing aggression to cost him more time and energy than the line could save.
By the time he arrived at Red Bull Romaniacs in 2026, that mentality had changed.
Across more than 35 hours of racing, Miller’s priority was finishing. Instead of chasing every aggressive line, he focused on riding smoothly, conserving energy and avoiding costly mistakes over four days in Romania’s Carpathian Mountains.
From Champion Brick Racing to Romaniacs

The age-25 deadline Miller set for himself three years ago may no longer be firm, but his goal remains unchanged.
He wants to keep improving, continue closing the gap to the front of the U.S. Hard Enduro field and find out just how far racing can take him.
